It almost feels like there's loot tables behind the scenes, I find multiples of certain uniques & Sets (Tal Rasha/Nat/etc), but never what I actually need. Somethings that may be required to make your character actually improve (your characters Skiller Charms / BiS Uniques / HR Runes) may never drop for your character. Playing Ladder Solo: the Loot is bad, gearing takes ages if you don't rely on the trading community or third party sites. I guess what I meant was that diablo 2 can become stale fast after finishing campaign for some people because you can only keep killing the same very limited bosses which have like 2 simplest mechanics each at most, you relog a lot and besides that I guess there is minimum amount of crafting, which I find as almost no endgame content, but on the other hand I understand that other people can love it for simplicity and good itemisation :) Myself I love D2 and come back to it every 2 years more or less but recently only in PD 2.It's still Diablo 2 with some decent QOL tweaks (Cows are now rerunnable, and Nitholaks gate doesn't close) and a few steps in the wrong direction (Cain doesn't ID contents of Cube, Open has been erased, LAN is gone, Cows are now only lvl 81 instead of 85) - Oh and the lobby system is non-existent on consoles. All arpgs can be different based on how that grind is working. Sure grind is what you do in every arpg so you can't really say that every arpg is the same because it has grind.
I never mentioned rifts as I didn't play d3 a lot after campaign so I can't comment on that, OP only mentioned PoE (I am guessing by "maps" you meant PoE too, maybe i'm wrong) and if we go into details there, it has unimaginable amount of endgame content compared to d2.
